NIKFI

The Research Film and Photo Institute is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

NIKFI was established and began its work in November 1929 to conduct research and development in all areas of professional cinematography technology. The young Soviet cinematography was making its first steps, and film equipment and film had to be purchased abroad. To do this, it was necessary to create and start producing film-making and film-projection equipment, auxiliary equipment, create and equip film factories, and prepare domestic personnel. By the 90’s. almost all film studios, film copying enterprises and cinemas were equipped with complexes of domestic film equipment, in the development of which the specialists of NIKFI participated.

For his services to the development of Soviet film technology, NIKFI was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 12, 1979.

In 1991, NIKFI was awarded the Academy Award in the category ” For the best technical achievements (Technical Achievement Award)” – for the continuous improvement of technology and the provision of three-dimensional cinema for Soviet moviegoers over the past 25 years.”

NIKFI is still a research institute that covers many areas of professional cinematography technology, representing a rare synthesis of a team of like-minded scientists and a unique scientific and research base. New areas of work are being developed.

The group engaged in the development of microphones was formed as part of the laboratory of Electroacoustics of the NIKFI in the early 60s of the twentieth century.

The need to work at the highest scientific level required the acquisition of measuring equipment of the world-famous Danish company “Bruhl and Kjer”, which is equipped with the most advanced sound laboratories in the world, and the creation of its own sound measuring complex, which includes sound-measuring muffled and reverberation chambers with precision measuring equipment. This allows you to conduct almost any acoustic and electroacoustic studies that require special acoustic conditions.

Specialists of the microphones sector of the Electroacoustics Laboratory have developed and organized the production of a large number of professional condenser microphones for film, television, radio, video and recording studios.
